Oral surgery is a specialized field of dentistry dedicated to diagnosing, surgically treating, and providing post-operative care for a variety of oral health issues. Oral issues encompass all types of diseases and injuries affecting the hard and soft tissues of the jaw. At Dini Dent, we understand that the health and aesthetics of your smile are deeply interconnected with the wellbeing of your teeth, roots, gums, and jaw’s soft tissues. Whether it’s addressing complex diseases or tending to injuries within the jaw, our oral surgery services are designed to restore and enhance both function and appearance.
At Dini Dent, we offer an extensive range of oral surgery procedures performed with the utmost precision and care. Some of the common procedures range from the removal of impacted wisdom teeth to the delicate extraction of cysts, and the sophisticated technique of clinical crown lengthening, our team is equipped to handle it all. Discover the exceptional care that awaits you at Dini Dent, where every procedure is a step towards a healthier, more radiant smile.
Our mission as dentists is always to preserve and save the tooth from extraction, following the "Tooth-Preserving" method. However, sometimes tooth extraction becomes inevitable. Tooth extraction is the most common oral surgery procedure. While it can often be a routine intervention, certain diseases or complexities may require a surgical approach. As the name implies, it involves removing the entire tooth from its bony socket. We have enhanced traditional extraction techniques with modern "Atraumatic Extraction Techniques." This atraumatic approach to tooth extraction allows for faster postoperative recovery and maximizes the preservation of the ridge dimensions, which is crucial for potential future dental implant placement.
Due to inadequate oral hygiene, cavities, and dental injuries, microorganisms can penetrate the tooth and cause infections. While these infections can often be addressed with standard dental treatments like endodontic therapy, sometimes these methods are insufficient. In such cases, we turn to a surgical procedure known as root resection or apicoectomy. This intervention involves removing the infected tissue from the periapex of the tooth—the area surrounding the root—and the tip of the root itself. By doing so, we save the tooth from extraction and effectively treat the infection-related problem.
Bacteria are often capable of causing abscesses, or purulent formations, within periodontal tissue. These inflamed purulent processes can lead to more significant complications. In cases where accumulated pus cannot be drained by other means, an incision of the abscess is performed. This procedure involves creating an opening in the mucosa through a surgical incision, allowing the accumulated pus to drain.
This surgical procedure increases the height of the jawbone (augmentation procedures in implantology) in the posterior regions of the upper jaw by elevating the maxillary sinus membrane. Elevating the membrane creates space for artificial bone to be implanted. Sinus lifting and artificial bone grafting are most commonly performed when the patient does not have sufficient bone for implant placement. In certain situations, a simultaneous technique may be employed, allowing implants to be placed concurrently with the sinus lift. If a delayed technique is chosen, implant placement can be performed after a 6-9 month healing period.
This surgical procedure involves increasing the visible portion of the tooth by removing a portion of the surrounding gum tissue and, if necessary, reshaping the underlying bone. Crown lengthening is typically performed to expose a larger area of the tooth structure for restorative purposes, such as placing a dental crown or filling, or to improve aesthetics in cases of a "gummy smile." This procedure is precise and ensures that the tooth can be properly restored while maintaining a harmonious gum line.
Frenula, or soft tissue folds, are normal anatomical structures that connect the tongue to the floor of the mouth, the upper and lower lips to the gums, and also exist on the sides of the oral cavity. In some cases, frenula may be more pronounced and cause issues that are sometimes purely aesthetic but can also lead to gum recession or interfere with denture use. In such situations, a frenectomy is performed—a simple surgical procedure that involves the removal of the frenulum.
Common questions about oral surgery
The duration of the procedure depends on the type of intervention, as well as the severity of the condition or specific situation of each patient. Typically, procedures last between 20 minutes and two hours. When it comes to dental procedures, patience is essential for both the patient and the dentist. At DiniDent, we strive to perform all treatments thoroughly and without rush, ensuring that the procedure is successful, as pain-free and comfortable as possible for the patient. This approach ensures a smooth recovery with no complications.
Although dental procedures are not the most pleasant experience and often cause discomfort even at the thought of the dental chair, there is no reason to be afraid. Before every procedure, the patient is given a local anesthetic, ensuring the process is pain-free. After the procedure, our team will prescribe any necessary medication and provide advice on how to care for yourself during the post-operative period.
